Google’s Mobile operating system was released with native Java development support but along with the development in other aspects, Google is also expanding the resources for the developers. The best example of this is the recent release of Android 1.5 NDK. Now the developers can develop apps for android gadgets (I am using the word gadget because it has gone beyond the cell phones) using C/C++ too.

With the increasing number sets and increasing features of the Android OS, it seems that it will cross the boundaries covered by the Symbian. Unfortunately, Symbian is far behind the race of the app stores, so there are not too much apps available for Symbian phones. Android, though launched too late but successfully attracted the developers to develop for Android.

There’s no need to compare Android with Palm’s WebOS or iPhone OS because these two are not open source and available natively on the respective devices. Android phones are lacking the elegant physical design so far but strong support and convenience for developers is making android lead the way and this will obviously increase the market share of the Android gadgets!
