I have installed Chrome OS on one of my laptops. Well, it feels like Ubuntu GUI the first time i use it. It is pretty much very basic.

Chrome OS is just another rebranded Linux GUI, it would be much better if Google came up with an OS that would directly compete with Windows.

In-fact if you watched the live Q&A section Google Chromium OS VP Mr. Pirchai did told that GOS is based on open source code, if someone wants to make a Firefox browser, it can do so just taking into mind the GOS architecture and it totally depends upon devs. And about your stance on installing Chrome OS on Computer of your choice, tell me does any particular version of linux, windows, mac supports all of the devices?? No, there are some shortfalls to all Operating systems.

Cheers
