A company that calls themselves Axon Logic is all set to introduce the most ultimate tablet device, that would offer the three major operating system on planet. Yes, all “three” major operating system, you get to choose from WIndows, Mac OS, and Linux.
The Axon Logic however does not officially support the idea of running Mac OS on that machine, since it would be illegal and Mac OS are proprietary to run on Mac machines only, the company could face lawsuit and other legal actions from Apple if they proceed with selling a Mac installed tablet in the market.
The Axon logic has this to say on the issue:
Besides using only quality components, they are specifically chosen to be compatible with Darwin. That gives you the freedom to run, in addition to Windows and Linux, any* Darwin OS. Darwin and all of its required components such as the mach_kernel and kexts are on an EFI partition to make it effortless to install your favorite XNU/Darwin OS. Just pop in the disk, and follow the directions.
That sounds fair enough and simple, but what about the components its offering? The best thing about its components is that its user replaceable, means you get what you like. Here are some salient specs of this Axon logic tablet:
- 1.6GHz Atom N270 (other trims will be available)
- 10″ 1024×600 LED-backlit LCD
- Resistive touchscreen w/ built-in stylus
- 2 200-pin SO-DIMM slots (2GB standard)
- 2.5″ HDD bay (320GB standard)
- 1.3MP webcam
- Wi-Fi (A/B/G/N)
- 3G SIM slot (AT&T or Verizon)
- Built-in speaker
- 3x USB, Headphone, mic, ethernet, VGA ports, card reader
- On-screen keyboard and handwriting recognition
- Removable battery (3000mAh, ~3hrs)
- 0.9kg (just under 2lb)
The tablet though looks quite powerful and promising considering all this specifications, but it comes with a heavy price tag of USD 800. Yes, way more expensive than the iPad and not to forget that its running on an OS which is not designed for tablets. So whats wrong with the company? Why they are offering such sort of a gadget at this price? The first answer that comes to mind then after considering this is because they are willing to offer a complete solution for touchscreen desktop computer and portable tablet PC, as this tablet would support all the typical peripheral of a PC.
Here’s a pic of this tablet running Mac OS, that also shows its multi-boot setup and installed hard drive of 320GB.
I honestly don’t know what they intend to do with this hardware, as thats for sure that they are not upto developing some specific OS for their tablet, instead they will use the existing OS which are NOT meant for tablet or touch screens, even if they install the existing Windows OS that supports multi-touch then even that would be horrible for countless reasons. This counts towards a huge negative aspect when talking about User Experience (UX) as only those tablet devices do a successful business in the market whose software is designed with respect of their hardware and other features, like iPad. Else, its a big fail. The heavy price tag of this device would also count as a minus in its overall ranking and rating.
But nothing can be said for sure until its actually launched in the market. Only then stats would tell how the device is really capable of performing in the market, rest are just the mere predictions based on the performance of other devices of such nature that have already found their way in the market. Lets see what happens.
