The latest rumor is that iPhone is landing on T-Mobile in Q3, not on Verizon or Sprint.

The rumor comes straight from CultofMac but the details clue on it being totally fake. According to CoM, their ‘highly placed’ source told them that there were ’80%’ chances of a T-Mobile iPhone. The source ‘works at Apple’ but wants to remain anonymous.

All this doesn’t make sense to me at all. Sure, T-Mobile is the 3rd largest US carrier but it’s way too small as compared to Verizon. Also, Apple will have to make a new iPhone because the current one’s are not compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G bands.

Like all of such cases, CoM got a ‘we don’t comment on rumors or speculation’ response from T-Mobile and a complete silence from Apple. So both the companies did their best to keep us in the dark.

We have had a lot of rumors about a Verizon iPhone but none have come true yet. There were some about Sprint too but again they don’t seem to come true.

In my humble opinion, Apple won’t go for exclusivity with another carrier again. They’d rather release an unlocked version as they did in the rest of the world. The sole purpose behind AT&T’s exclusivity – as Steve Jobs said – was to make Apple succeed in selling a phone. So they got what they needed. Now they don’t need to tie themselves in another bond.
