Nexus One Hacked to Capture 720p HD Video

XDA guys are always there to bring  great stuff to us. They brought us the Nexus One wi-fi ‘n’, Froyo for the HTC EVO, root of Dell Streak and what not! Today they are back with something that we’d love to have! HD video recording on the Nexus One!

Nexus One is Google’s own branded Android phone which got the Froyo first of all. But it is far behind the race when compared to the iPhone 4. Both have got a 5MP camera but the iPhone 4 can capture 720p HD video at 30fps but the Nexus One can’t. Just after two days of iPhone 4 announcement, an Android hacker from India made it! He has codded a patch for the CyanogenMod CM5.0.8test3 which allows you to record 720p HD video from your Nexus One. The video quality is yet to be improved by increasing the frames per second. Here’s a video recorded at 720p HD quality from Nexus One:

Now, if you want to hack your Nexus One to do the very same, you need to root it first. Let’s move on to a step-by-step guide:

1. Root your Nexus One. Here’s how you’d do that.
2. Now you need to install CyanogenMod on your Nexus One. Make sure you have the latest version, at least the CM5.0.8test3. Here’s a Step-by-Step guide on installing CM.
3. Patch the CM with the 720p patch. Download the file from this XDA thread and flash it as update.zip.
4. There you go! Your Nexus One can record 720p HD video now!

Great work XDA guys! You always do great!
