AT&T was sued a lot over the lack of MMS service when iPhone OS 3.0 was launched. Apple and AT&T tried to cover up the matter with different statements but the users were not willing to cool down in any way. Though AT&T promised to start the service soon but no official dates were announced. Later on AT&T MMS service was said to be launched in late summer.
Most of you will be happy to know that AT&T has now officially announced to launch MMS support for iPhone 3G and 3GS on 25th of September. If we consider September to be last month of summer then AT&T is going to abide by its promise of late summer launch.
AT&T quoted on it’s Facebook page:
We’ve been working for the past several months to prepare our systems and network to ensure the best possible experience with MMS when it launches – and that launch date is: September 25 for iPhone 3G and 3GS customers. MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day.We know that iPhone users will embrace MMS. The unique capabilities and high usage of the iPhone’s multimedia capabilities required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the expected record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One. We appreciate your patience as we work toward that end.
AT&T has not attached the price and package details with the announcements but we had heard that the service is going to be free of charge.
I’ve seen many users calling names to AT&T for its bad service, call drops and messy data network. Would MMS support add to all these service problems? Let’s hope (though we should not) that the service will work fine and will not bring network over load and reduced call quality.
