Disney Japan has partnered with Sony to sell its movie titles pre-recorded on microSD cards. Starting from November 2009, these microSD cards will be available for around $53 each.
World is moving towards the mobile gadgets so in my opinion Disney and Sony have taken a great futuristic step. May not be compared with DVD and blu ray, but this new trend has a great scope in mobile devices. Many tech blogs are of the opinion that this will kill blue ray which is not a realistic approach. Blu ray has its scope in desktop gadgets and has its own great features whereas microSD movies will find their market among the mobile gadgets. Though in the far future, we can expect most of the desktop gadgets also coming with the microSD reader.
Can’t say anything about Japan but will the cash starved America be willing to pay big bucks for a movie on a microSD? Lets hope, it gets popular after a huge price drop.
